In a significant leap forward for precision mold manufacturing, PRECISION MOLD & DIE has invested $2.8 million in state-of-the-art 5-axis CNC machining centers, resulting in a 40% improvement in mold accuracy and a 25% reduction in overall lead times.
In Q1 2026, we commissioned four new DMG Mori DMU 65 monoBLOCK 5-axis CNC machining centers. These machines represent the gold standard in precision mold machining, capable of simultaneous 5-axis interpolation with positioning accuracy of ±0.002mm.
Unlike traditional 3-axis machining that requires multiple setups and fixture changes, 5-axis machining allows us to machine complex mold geometries in a single setup. This eliminates cumulative positioning errors and dramatically improves the accuracy of intricate features such as deep ribs, undercuts, and complex cooling channels.
Since the commissioning of these new machines, our quality data shows:
For our customers, this translates into tangible benefits: faster time-to-market for new products, higher quality molded parts with tighter tolerances, and longer mold life due to superior machining precision. One automotive customer reported that parts from molds produced on our 5-axis centers achieved CpK values above 1.67 on all critical dimensions — exceeding their 1.33 minimum requirement.
This investment is part of our ongoing commitment to manufacturing excellence. We plan to add two more 5-axis machines by Q4 2026, along with automated pallet changers for lights-out machining capability, further reducing lead times and costs for our global customers.
